Do you know someone who suffers from depression or, you personally suffered or still suffering from one?

According to the World Health Organization, more than 300 million people globally are being affected by this mental illness and what’s saddening the most is that still a lot of people don’t recognize this as an illness and some are still taking it for granted. In fact, there are also instances that some people make fun of a depressed person’s situation because they lack knowledge about the cause and effects of this sickness.

In reality, you really don’t need to be an expert to be healed nor save someone’s life. All you need to do is to understand what are they going through, and show them the beauty of life.

Here are 5 ways that will help you overcome depression and become a depression warrior:

1. Do random acts of kindness
Always remember that depression is a like a dark rim inside of us that prevents ourselves from seeing the light in our lives. It will always cover our eyes with darkness whenever you look in the mirror. So if you cannot find light in your own life, why not be the light to others’ instead?

2. You are what you eat
Maybe most of the time, you will think about eating your stress-reliever food whenever you feel down. This time, do the contrary. Take plant foods which, I know for sure, are most likely out of your list whenever you feel like you are stressed out. Still doesn’t make sense because you are probably thinking that eating what you DON’T like will just increase your tension level? You are completely WRONG. Your stress-reliever foods are just there for you temporarily and won’t even help you not to feel bad again. Taking plant-rich diets such as green tea, oregano and cinnamon will lessen your chances of getting that awful feeling again. Prevention is better than cure, right?

3. Be kind, always
Everyone is fighting a battle almost every day that you know nothing about. Even that celebrity that you admire maybe going thru something that you won’t even get the chance to understand. That’s why it’s very important to be kind all the time. Whenever you will spit out words to someone because you feel upset, always think of what’s gonna happen next.

4. Lend your ears
Listen all the time. Listen to someone who’s venting out. Listen to their miseries even if it means adding it to your box full of frustrations too. Empathize. Go with their emotions, but never make fun of how they dramatize situations. You will never know who is suffering from depression.

5. Get an ally
If you are the one who’s suffering from depression. Get a trusted person to talk to, to share your thoughts and fight your battles with. An ally is someone that will engage and help you overcome your state of disturbance by doing something that will lessen the pain. On the other hand, if you know someone who’s being affected by this mental illness, BE THEIR ALLY. Never let them feel alone and always make them feel the opposite of what they feel about themselves.

Life is so precious that you also have to value the lives of people around you. The world revolves around and may even turn things upside down. If there’s something that you can do, big or small, just to fight this psychological incapacity from increasing and affecting numerous lives. Do it!
